People aspiring for government jobs are increasing at an alarming rate for the numerous benefits. It not only comes with unparalleled job security but also a good salary and other perks like retirement and medical benefits. So how does one apply for such jobs? The answer is appearing for the various entrance exams associated with each one of them. Depending upon the nature of the job and the department one has to clear the exam. Below is a list of such competitive exams that one can appear in.


Civil Services Examination: One of the most popular competitive exams conducted nationwide by the Union Public Service Commission. Recruitment for various divisions like the Indian Administrative Services, Indian Revenue Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Foreign Service, and other civil services in the Government of India is carried out through the exam. 


Indian Economic Service Examination: Under group A of the central civil services is the Indian Economic Services. It was initiated for the formulation and implementation of the economic policies of the country. Through the IES exam, approximately recruitment to 32 job postings is made. Post Graduates with an economics background can appear for the exam. 


Indian Statistical Service Examination: Similar to IES the ISS is also a Group-A Central Civil Services of the executive branch of the Government of India. People recruited through the exam are considered grade A officers and KRA involve conducting various studies and surveys on behalf of the government of India. These officers come directly under the administration and permanent bureaucracy of the Govt. of India.


RBI Grade B Examination: The exam is conducted for the recruitment of the RBI Grade B Officer post. It is one of the highly esteemed positions in the government with lakhs of students applying for the same every year. The vacancies might be a handful but they come with an excellent pay scale and a reputed job profile. Like many other government job profiles, the recruit for the RBI Grade B Officer post also has three stages i.e prelims, mains, and the final interview. The minimum eligibility criterion is a graduate from a recognized university.


SSC CGL Examination: The Staff Selection Commission’s Combined Graduate Level exam is conducted for recruitment to posts like Inspector (Examiner) CBEC, Assistant Section Officer (CSS), Assistant Enforcement Officer, and Income Tax Inspector. The eligibility criterion to appear for the examination is the same as the UPSC Civil Service Examination. Refer to the official website for the detailed eligibility criterion. 


UPSC CDS Examination: This is a combined defense services examination conducted by the UPSC. The exam is held twice a year for recruitment into Officers’ Training Academy, Indian Air Force Academy, Indian Military Academy, and Indian Naval Academy. Like the eligibility requirement for the other UPSC exams, the candidates appearing for CDS Examination should at least hold a graduation degree from a recognized university. The selection process involves a written exam which is followed by the Intelligence & Personality Test carried out in two stages. 


Teachers Eligibility Test: For people who aspire for making a career in the teaching profession, cracking the TET could open up great opportunities. One can apply for jobs in government-run schools and can have the added benefit of a government job. Conducted by the state and the central government it comprises two papers. The first paper is for class I to Class VI and the second for Class VI to Class VII. People already possessing professional teaching qualifications are eligible to appear for the test. The minimum cut-off percentage to pass the test is 60%.
